LOCAL VETERAN FILES TO SERVE ON COLLEGE STATION CITY COUNCIL

(College Station, TX) –Lieutenant Colonel David Fujimoto (USAF, Ret.) announced his candidacy today for College Station City Council Place 4. Fujimoto served more than 22 years of active duty as a pilot in the United States Air Force. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Fujimoto deployed ten times after 9/11, including 138 combat missions and several headquarters assignments across the middle east and Africa.

The grandson of immigrants and a first-generation college student, Fujimoto received a Bachelor of Science from the Air Force Academy, a Master of Arts from the American Public University and a Master of Public Service & Administration from the Bush School in 2017. Fujimoto currently serves the Texas A&M Foundation as the Director of Development, Veterans Affairs where he seeks philanthropic opportunities to assist student veterans. Prior to that, he led the Association’s Advocacy Program, and organized “Aggies on the Hill” in Washington, D.C and “Orange and Maroon Legislative Day” during the 86th session in Austin.

During his extensive career in the Air Force, Fujimoto also served in strategic planning, policy development, project management, and executive leadership – including a tour at the Pentagon. He was selected as the 16th Special Operations Squadron “Pilot of the Year” in 2000 and 2001, “Company Grade Officer of the Year” in 2001 and was among the first U.S. airmen flying over Afghanistan following 9/11. Also a passionate amateur historian, “Fuji” enjoys teaching his two young sons, and students in Texas A&M’s Corps of Cadets, about the events and ideas that have shaped our nation and the world as we know it.

Fujimoto filed the required paperwork today with a deep desire to continue to serve his community. “This is my home, the place where I retired,” said Fujimoto. “I want to do my part to see it prosper. I absolutely agree with President George H.W. Bush when he stated that ‘public service is a noble calling’ and I’ve devoted most of my life to it.

“I feel I bring a perspective and a body of experiences – from both the federal and state level - that will be useful to this community. The complex challenges of the future will require strategic thinking, and the ability to bring together education, government and business leaders, working toward a common goal.”
