From an early age, Dave Fujimoto learned the value of education, hard work, integrity, discipline, respect, empathy, and understanding for various points of view. Born and raised in suburban New York, Dave was the oldest of two sons and was active in sports, Scouts, and extracurricular activities. He was captain of the High School football team as a junior, a member of the National Honor Society, received an Air Force ROTC scholarship, and was the first person from his High School to receive an appointment to
the Air Force Academy.
The grandson of immigrants, and a first-generation college student, “Fuji” had a successful 22-year career in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from the US Air Force Academy in 1993. His military career led him to ten states, including bases in Texas on two occasions. It was during this time that he completed a Master’s Degree in Military Science from American Public University. Dave served at various levels of staff and command, with the direct responsibility over the organization, training and discipline of hundreds of military personnel and tens of millions of dollars
in aircraft and equipment.
In addition to successful state-side assignments (including a tour at the Pentagon), Dave has traveled on military orders to over fifty countries, deployed to combat and contingency operations in the Middle East & Africa on twelve occasions; ten of those occurring after 9/11. While deployed, he served in a variety of tactical, operational, and strategic roles. On his last deployment in 2014, he was hand-selected to serve in the Commander’s Action Group as a senior advisor to the four-star US general in-charge of
the war in Afghanistan.
Dave still wanted to serve his country and community following his retirement from the military. He received a Congressional Fellowship and attended Texas A&M’s George Bush School of Government and Public Service. While there, he was active in several student organizations including Public Service Organizations and the Bush School Ambassadors. He led several team-based service projects at both Bryan and College Station elementary schools known as “Paint USA” that created large maps in child recess areas. In 2016, he served as an intern on Governor Gregg Abbott’s staff and in the Texas Military Preparedness Commission. He graduated from the Bush School in 2017 with a Master’s of Public Service and Administration receiving both Phi Kappa Phi and
Pi Alpha Alpha honors.
After graduation, Dave led the Association of Former Student’s Legislative Advocacy program. He was a vocal advocate for higher-education spending and policy, and shared Texas A&M’s legislative agenda with volunteers, staff, and elected officials at both the state and federal level. In addition, he organized the University’s major legislative days: Aggies on the Hill in Washington, D.C. and Orange and Maroon Legislative Day in Austin.
Dave is a volunteer at a local church, with his son’s Cub & Boy Scouts groups, and has participated in both Habitat for Humanity events and the KBTX Brazos Valley Food Drive. In addition, he serves as an officer with the Brazos County A&M Club, on the board of the Bush School Former Student Network, as a School of Military Science instructor for the Corps of Cadets, an USAFA Admissions Liaison Officer, and on the city’s Historical Preservation Committee. He currently works for the Texas A&M Foundation – soliciting large gifts and championing projects to support student veterans and dependents on campus and in the community. In his down time, Dave enjoys spending quality time with his sons, socializing with veterans in the local community, playing volleyball and softball, watching movies, and reading.
David Fujimoto brings a track record of professional success coupled with the necessary leadership skills to inspire and unite a diverse set of individuals and groups. His “can-do” attitude is infectious; while encouraging collaboration to ensure the best results. Energetic and optimistic, David Fujimoto knows that “Public Service is a Noble Calling,” and that College Station is already a great place to live and work. He is ready, willing, and able to take on the challenges to ensure its success in the future.
As a parent with children in the College Station Independent School District and as an employee of Texas A&M Foundation, I understand the importance of high quality education in our community. I support partnerships and opportunities that attract top talent to our institutions. High performing Pre-K-12 and post-secondary systems are vital to a thriving community.
Presently, this is a huge concern for our community. Current systems in place can be improved upon through efficient use of resources and a broadened view of
potential collaborations.
It is my goal to assist in developing a plan that benefits the greatest number of citizens in our community. We must create a budget that minimizes "waste" and reassess needs versus wants. I look forward to working with constituents and leadership in determining priorities for College Station.
A functional and supportive relationship between Brazos County, College Station, Bryan, and Texas A&M University is significant for a stable community. I support constructive communication between these entities, and will cultivate these connections.
Housing should be available and affordable for those in our community. The current price of housing is very high, making home-ownership a challenge for many. I encourage builders and developers to create more opportunity for growth, under our City's comprehensive plan.
I'm an amateur historian. I love reading about the events and people that have shaped our civilization. I think our past is crucial to our future.
I'm proud to be a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. And I'm proud to be a graduate of the Bush School at Texas A&M, the two greatest institutions of higher learning in the world.
Teaching my sons the meaning of patriotism and respect is one of my greatest responsibilities. This is my youngest paying his respects to President George H.W. Bush as his funeral train passed by.
One of the greatest privileges of my life has been to serve alongside the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.
After 22 years in Air Force, I wanted to continue a life of service. That's why I chose the Bush School of Government and Public Service. It truly is 'a noble calling.'
Since I graduated from Texas A&M, I have had the unique opportunity to work with legislators at the federal and state level in support of higher education and Texas A&M.
